   YOUTH CENTER - PHILOSOPHY

The ‘Centro de Juventud’ gives the youth of Tlahui a positive choice. An opportunity to better their math and processing skills, their Spanish and literature skills, and their self-esteem as youth, as woman and men and as indigenous. The center was developed as a means of intervention but most importantly as prevention. It was developed out of the philosophy of Resilience which has been studied over the last years by several doctors, psychologists and social workers.   Students at primary school

Resilience is a series of factors or qualities that people, families and communities hold that can foster their ability to overcome adversities through the development of ‘social competence, problem-solving skills, a critical consciousness, autonomy, and a sense of purpose’ (Benard, Bonnie, 1995, Fostering Resilience in Children).
